Malawi has been hit by sugar crisis on the market. Spot checks in various towns and cities have indicated that major chain stores and retail shops have run out of the product.
In some shops, where the commodity is available, traders have hiked prices from $1 to $2 dollars. But Illovo Sugar Malawi officials have blamed consumers, saying their panic buying has led to unavailability of the commodity.
This is the second time that Malawi is facing a sugar crisis since 2012.
