AMI 18 May 2021: Botswana and Nigeria inflation prints and oil prices

View descriptionShare

Botswana: Botswana’s annual price growth skyrocketed to 5.6% y/y in April, compared to 3.2% y/y recorded in March — the highest inflation level recorded since August 2013. This sharp rise follows the implementation of several supply-side changes, such as the increase in VAT (from 12% to 14%); the introduction of a sugar-tax; a 3.0% increase in electricity tariffs; as well as an increase in the fuel levy by P1.00, that were effected on 1 April 2021.
