World Economic Forum gets underway as global gap between rich and poor widens

A recent report by global  non-profit, non-partisan research organisation,  the Brookings Institution, has found that Africa is at a crossroads, as the continent navigates the delicate balance between a rapid labour force growth with declining foreign aid, while also emphasising opportunities in demographic dynamism. The Foresight Africa 2026 report,  warns of debt distress and job creation gaps, while recommending that African leaders take action towards an inclusive growth through digitalisation, regional integration and resource mobilisation to address these challenges. With Africa's booming youth population expected to rise by 740 million more by the year 2050, the organisation says leaders should be focusing on this potential, as only 3 million new formal jobs are created annually versus the 12 million young people entering the market each year.
