View descriptionShare

Mozambique is bracing for another potentially devastating storm. The country's National Institute of Meteorology, says Tropical Storm, Gezani could become a fully-fledged cyclone by Friday, with winds of up to 140 kilometers an hour and dangerous gusts of 240. Parts of Inhambane region could see more than 200 millimeters of rain in just 24 hours, enough to trigger flooding, landslides and widespread damage. UNICEF's Spokesperson in Mozambique, Guy Tailor says the storm is the latest in a series of devastations in the area."We are very, very concerned about the likely impact of this storm. Many of the people that are going to be impacted by it, are people who are already reeling from the historic flooding that we've had impacting over 70 000 people in Mozambique  in recent months, more than half of those, being children. We are working together with our partners and supportive government to prepare for the impact and to respond," he said. He spoke to Tsepiso Makwetla
