The 39th African Union Leaders' Summit has renewed its commitment to peace and security across the continent. The heads of state gathered in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa over the weekend, where UN Secretary-General, António Guterres called for Africa to have a permanent seat on the UN Security Council. As Channel Africa's Micheal Mbewe reports, AU Commission Chairperson, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf says this year's discussions centred on strategic priorities.  A group of armed men have gunned down at least 30 people and burned houses and shops in a number of villages in Nigeria's Niger State. The attacks are the latest in a surge blamed on violent bandits, who have carried out deadly assaults, abductions for ransom, and displaced communities across northern Nigeria.
