South Africa’s Department of Health says it stands ready to respond should any Ebola cases be reported in the country. The department recently hosted a webinar to address the current situation surrounding the Bundibugyo strain of the Ebola virus on the continent.

Held under the theme “Protecting families and communities, preventing fear”, the webinar aimed to provide information on preparedness measures, public health responses and strategies to prevent panic while strengthening awareness of the disease.

Health authorities say surveillance systems and response mechanisms remain in place to detect and manage any potential cases, while emphasising the importance of public awareness and regional cooperation in containing outbreaks.
