Save the Children Somalia warns of deepening humanitarian crisis

View descriptionShare

Save the Children is warning of a deepening humanitarian crisis in Somalia, as soaring food, fuel, and water prices push millions closer to hunger, due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. I

n the capital, Mogadishu, fuel prices have surged by as much as 150% in just one month, driving up the cost of electricity, transport, and essential services. At the same time, staple foods such as sorghum and maize have seen sharp price increases, making it increasingly difficult for families to afford basic meals.

Humanitarian organisations warn that children are among the hardest hit, facing rising risks of malnutrition, school dropouts, and poor health as families struggle to cope.

Mpho Sithole spoke to Francesca Sangiorgi, Humanitarian Director for Save the Children Somalia for more on the situation and what is being done to support affected communities.
