In the wake of South Africa's (SA) ongoing Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak, farmers across the country are bearing the brunt of its devastating impact.
In an interview with Channel Africa at the national Foot and Mouth Disease Indaba in the capital Pretoria, Member of Parliament and Portfolio Committee member on Agriculture, Willie Aucamp, emphasised the urgency of restoring the country's vaccine production capabilities. Aucamp commended Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen and SA's department of Agriculture for their swift response to the crisis but warned that years of neglect-particularly at vaccine manufacturing facilities-have left SA dangerously reliant on imported vaccines.
Channel Africa's reporter Micheal Mbewe spoke with Willie Aucamp, Member of Parliament and Portfolio Committee member on Agriculture.
