South Africa (SA) President Cyril Ramaphosa and his United States (US) counterpart, Donald Trump, are set to hold a high-level in-person meeting in Washington this month, aimed at restoring diplomatic and trade relations between the two countries. 

The two leaders are expected to discuss a wide range of diplomatic and trade relations, including the recent arrival of 49 white Afrikaners who claim to be fleeing racial persecution in SA.

 Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to Professor Erin McCandless, Acting Director of the Qatar-SA Centre for Peace and Intercultural Understanding at the University of Johannesburg and Senior Associate Fellow at Global Institute for Strategic Research.
