South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, in his capacity as Interim Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), on Wednesday addressed and participated in a virtual Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government. The summit convened by Ramaphosa, is considering, among other issues, the political situation in the Republic of Madagascar following violent unrest in September that led to the departure of President Andry Rajoelina, the establishment of a transitional government and the election of the SADC interim Chairperson following Madagascar's withdrawal.
