 Beyond understanding the root causes, the initiative seeks to assess the wide-ranging impacts of alcohol on individuals, families, and communities.

New research project targets alcohol abuse in Southern Africa

Six hundred people are going to benefit from an initiative of the Community Social Investment (CSI) initiative by the Gautrain Management Agency in South Africa. 

The agency has pledged 600 buckets full of non-perishable groceries which will be donated to the needy in the Gauteng province.  

The packing of the buckets drive took place at Gautrain Pretoria, Midrand, and Sandton stations with the help of  Gautrain passengers, the Gautrain Management Agency Board and staff and the provincial government leadership.

Uganda is heading toward its January 2026 general elections, but instead of ushering in renewed democratic energy, the country appears to be reliving and intensifying the patterns of its past electoral cycles.

The political temperature is rising, and concerns over shrinking civic space, repression of opposition voices, and the tightening grip of state power are growing louder both at home and abroad. At the center of it all is President Yoweri Museveni. Now 80 years old, he has ruled Uganda for nearly 40 years, and his long-standing dominance shows no signs of wavering.

Concerns grow as Uganda approaches 2026 elections

The latest US-sponsored push for peace in Ukraine is faltering, with diplomatic efforts showing little progress in narrowing the divide between Moscow and Kyiv.

Although negotiators linked to US President Donald Trump recently suggested Russia might be open to ending the war, the Kremlin has now issued one of its toughest warnings yet insisting Ukrainian forces must withdraw from the eastern Donbas region or Russia will take the remaining territory by force.

 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has responded just as firmly, making clear that Kyiv will not surrender any territory under any circumstances.
