View descriptionShare

From the remote province of Niassa in northern Mozambique to the conflict-ravaged east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, mpox continues to put Africa’s health systems under severe pressure.

The infectious disease, marked by fever, headache and a distinctive rash, was declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation a year ago.

Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to Dr Patrick Otim, Programme Area Manager for Emergency Response at the WHO Regional Office for Africa.
