The International Women’s Peace Group, in partnership with the City of Johannesburg, has graduated a new group of peace ambassadors through its Peace Leadership Training and Education programme. The initiative aims to equip participants with skills in conflict resolution, peaceful communication and community leadership at a time when many communities continue to grapple with violence and social divisions. The programme seeks to empower individuals to become agents of peace within their communities, promoting dialogue, social cohesion and non-violent approaches to resolving conflict.

World Rural Development Day highlights the importance of improving the quality of life of people living in rural areas, focusing on challenges such as poverty, limited access to education and healthcare, unemployment and inadequate infrastructure. The day aligns with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Rural communities play a vital role in food production, environmental conservation and the preservation of cultural heritage. Yet many remain underdeveloped compared with urban areas and continue to face significant barriers to economic and social progress.

As South Africa continues the process of repatriating undocumented migrants to their home countries, including Malawi and Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) Coordinating Committee has raised concerns about the impact this could have on school-going children. The committee warns that the removal of families may disrupt children's education, emotional wellbeing and access to essential services, particularly for those who have spent much of their lives in South Africa.

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has adopted a motion condemning the escalating violence in Sudan, particularly in the city of Al-Obeid. The violence has been attributed to the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with alarming reports of serious human rights abuses, including summary executions, abductions, torture and sexual violence. The motion, led by the United Kingdom and supported by several countries, also calls for an urgent investigation into the alleged atrocities.
