Gabon has been restored to full membership of the Commonwealth, nearly two years after a military coup ousted long-time president Ali Bongo Ondimba.
The decision follows an April election in which coup leader Brice Oligui Nguema reportedly secured nearly 95% of the vote, a result the Commonwealth has described as credible and inclusive, despite some international scepticism.
Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to Professor Douglas Yates, a political scientist at the American Graduate School in Paris who specialises in African politics.
