Residents of Mooiplaas, in South Africa's Mpumalanga province have called on government to take urgent action as elephants escaping the local Songimvelo Nature Reserve continue to destroy people's crops. The community alleges that the elephants regularly escape through the nature reserves porous fence, which was repaired in the year 2024. In response, the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency blames illegal miners and poachers for the broken fence.
