Professor Mary-Jane Bopape, a meteorologist from the University of South Africa (UNISA), says that the most significant effects of the current El Niño in Southern Africa, will become apparent over the next three months when the region is expected to experience tropical weather.

She notes that the current high temperatures are linked to both El Niño and global warming.

Bopape was among the speakers at a three-day training session in Johannesburg, South Africa, focused on reporting heat extremes in Southern Africa. Sisi Segalo has more on the story.
