The Economic Community of West African States-better known as ECOWAS, has faced major tests in recent years: military coups, stalled regional integration, and growing pressure to defend democracy across the region.

Since July 2022, a new leadership team has been steering the bloc with promises of reform and "shared prosperity. But with their term set to end in July 2026, how much progress has really been made - and what challenges still lie ahead?

As we edge closer to Channel Africa's inaugural Africa Matters Summit, the conversation is shifting from abstract climate goals to the hard reality of who actually holds the purse strings. While Africa is at the forefront of the global climate crisis, a massive gap remains: the women who produce the majority of our food are often the last to receive the funding needed to protect it. This emerged at the Council of Ministers of SADC in Pretoria, convened to deliberate on the implementation of regional integration programmes. As Bonolo Maribe reports, the meeting is being chaired by South Africa's International Relations and Co-operation Minister, Ronald Lamola
