In a recent opinion piece, Dr Patrick Ngassa Piotie, Chairperson of the Diabetes Alliance, warns of what he describes as a new form of denialism, drawing parallels with the country's past response to HIV/AIDS.
He argues that failure to act decisively on diabetes could have devastating consequences, not only for public health but also for economic stability and the future of reforms such as the National Health Insurance. The recently adopted Johannesburg Declaration for Accelerated Action on Diabetes is being positioned as a key roadmap to address this growing burden.
