Cameroon went to the polls on Sunday, 12 October, in a presidential election that could see Paul Biya, now 92 years old and in power since 1982, win an unprecedented eighth term.
Biya abolished presidential term limits in 2008, removing constitutional constraints on how many times he could run. The opposition is fragmented, but there is a rising figure: Issa Tchiroma Bakary, a former government spokesperson, has campaigned on promises to end Biya's long era of rule and to address economic stagnation.
Now to talk about the latest we are joined on the line by Mimi Mefo a Cameroonian journalist and human rights activist.
