Aid agencies urge continued support for essential health services in Sudan

View descriptionShare

As world leaders prepare to gather at the UN General Assembly, aid agencies are urging governments and institutional donors to maintain support for essential health services in Sudan. They warn that, as the ongoing war drives humanitarian needs across the country, funding cuts are reducing the response to what is widely regarded as the world's largest humanitarian crisis.

An estimated 33.7 million people are projected to require humanitarian assistance in 2026, representing the highest number globally. Aid organisations say sustained funding is critical to ensuring access to healthcare, nutrition support and other lifesaving services for vulnerable communities affected by the conflict.

Nhlanhla Mahlangu reports.
