Afrobarometer’s latest flagship report shows that African youth are significantly less engaged in political and civic activities than older generations, with one major exception, participation in protests.

The findings draw on more than 53 000 interviews conducted across 39 African countries, offering one of the most comprehensive snapshots of political engagement on the continent.

Us President Donald Trump just held a press briefing in the White House in Washington on Iran's deadline on opening the Strait of Hurmuz. Trump told journalists that he was informed that the weekends mission in Iran was dangerous. The President still maintained the deadline for Iran. Meanwhile, the United States is on high alert as tensions escalate with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz. In an explicit post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump threatened to target Iranian power plants and bridges if the strait isn't reopened today. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil trade with around 20 million barrels of oil passing through it daily. Iran has effectively closed the strait since US and Israeli attacks on Iran began, sparking global fears of an oil crisis. The public hearings into Zimbabwe's Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 have now concluded, marking the end of a key consultation phase in the country's constitutional reform process.

The hearings, which were conducted across all ten provinces, ran from 30 March to 2 April 2026 and allowed citizens to present their views on the proposed changes. They formed part of a broader 90-day public consultation period that began after the Bill was gazetted in February 2026.

 The conclusion of the hearings means that the Bill will now move to the next stages of the legislative process, including parliamentary review, debate, and voting, which are expected to take place after the consultation phase.
