HIV and AIDS have brought into sharp focus men’s poor relationship with seeking health care services, for both prevention and treatment purposes. Poor health-seeking attitudes and behaviours often result in men not accessing health care, which in turn causes higher morbidity and mortality.

Kgopotso Bodibe highlights a new multi-media campaign that aims to change this in South Africa. The campaign, called MINA, focuses on men and their health and wellbeing, while also engaging them more directly on HIV prevention, care and treatment initiation and retention.

We will hear from a number of men who have overcome their challenges with health-seeking. They include Thanduxolo, a long-time survivor of HIV and one of the voices and faces that drive the Mina campaign as well as Dr John Blanchard, Director of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, South Africa.

Lastly, we will hear about research on how the Covid-19 lockdown has impacted the ability of street children in Zimbabwe to eke out a living on the streets.
