(ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ గ్రంథాలయ సంఘం 1914 లో గ్రంథాలయ ఉద్యమం సందర్భంగా స్థాపించబడింది. 20 వ శతాబ్దం ప్రారంభంలో, స్వతంత్ర ఉద్యమంతో పాతే  'గ్రంథాలయ ఉద్యమం' ఒక ముఖ్యమైన సామాజిక ఉద్యమం గా మారింది. ప్రజలను చైతన్య పరిచే ఉద్ధేశంతో పలు ప్రాంతాలకు వ్యాప్తి చెందింది. కానీ ఈరోజు పరిస్థితులు వేరు. ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ తెలంగాణ లలో మొత్తమ్మీద 1600 గ్రంథాలయాలు మాత్రమే ఉన్నాయి. ఉన్నవి కూదా దయనీయమైన పరిస్తితిలో ఉన్నాయి. అంతేకాక 2014 లో విభజన తరువాత, ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌కు ఇంకా రాష్ట్ర కేంద్ర గ్రంథాలయం లేదు.

(The Andhra Pradesh Library Association was established in 1914 during the Library Movement. At the turn of the 20th century, Telugu people took to a literary movement—The Library Movement, to support the larger Indian Freedom Struggle. They set up libraries with a strong belief that only empowered individuals can benefit the freedom movement. Soon, they formed the Andhra Pradesh Library Association to spread to different parts of the Telugu regions aiding various people’s movements.. However, the situation is different today. Between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, there are only 1600 libraries. Those which exist are in dire need of attention in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Further, post the bifurcation in 2014, Andhra Pradesh does not yet have a State Central Library.  

In this backdrop, Sai Priya Kodidala speaks to Dr. Raavi Sarada, Secretary of the century-old Andhra Pradesh Library Association to understand the Library movement and why it is relevant for us to remember today. Sai Priya Kodidala also runs The Telugu Archive tracing Telugu literature, art and history. )
