In today's news: The city of South Haven is working with the Van Buren-Cass District Health Department and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to determine what's caused a large bird kill-off in the past week.  Township leaders from around southern Berrien County are heaping praise on the Berrien County Road Department for the ongoing Red Arrow Highway work.  Berrien County has received bids for some work near Silver Beach County Park in St. Joseph to help alleviate traffic congestion this summer.

In today's news: The Van Buren County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Hartford Monday. There will be a heavy police presence on I-94 this Wednesday all across the state as sheriff's departments, Michigan State Police, and local police departments look for distracted drivers. The Southwest Michigan Regional Airport wants to do more to get its name out there and is seeking partners to help increase its visibility.

In today's news: The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has voted to seek refinancing for a south county drain project after complaints its current interest rate is too high.  The Michigan House has approved a $3.1 billion road funding plan drafted by Republicans and supported by a handful of Democrats. Among the Democrats to vote for the package Wednesday was state Representative Joey Andrews, who tells us it may have come from the opposing party, but he sees value in it. Unit 1 of the Cook nuclear power plant in Bridgman will be taken offline at 3 a.m. this Saturday to begin its 32nd refueling outage.

Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells us MDOT is going to repave the highway between Coloma and Watervliet starting Monday. Representatives of more than 30 non-profit organizations gathered at Corewell Health Lakeland Medical Center on Thursday to talk about how they can best respond to potential federal funding cuts after a surprise announcement of a freeze in January.

Grumps is our adorable big ol' buddy and he is ready for adoption! Grumps is such a good boy and always has his little tail wagging. He absolutely loves treats and will sit patiently and wait for them. Grumps also knows how to shake with both paws. We named him Grumps because of his serious face and he goes into guard dog mode when there's new people, but he's really just a big baby. He would make a great, loving, and fun companion.
