Yaya (Nelia Ngulube) has been a nanny for 16 years, working for four families and caring for a total of nine children. She has two children of her own and lives in Craighall Park, Johannesburg. She learned to make rusks from the grandmother of one of the families she worked for, later adapting the original recipe into her own. In April 2025, she launched her rusk business with the support and social media strategy of her current employer, where she looks after twin boys. The business has since grown rapidly, with weekly sell-outs and a loyal customer base.
