If you grew up with TKZee, you know Kabelo Mabalane as Bouga Luv one of the voices that helped define an era of South African music. From “Shibobo” and “Dlala Mapantsula” with TKZee to “Pantsula 4 Life” in his solo career, Kabelo has been part of the soundtrack of South Africa for decades.

But it’s been 11 years since his last solo album, and now he’s back not trying to recreate the Kabelo of the past, but making music from the man he has become: a husband, father, pastor and someone who has lived through some very different chapters of his life.

His new single “Everybody Needs Somebody” featuring The Arrows is already out, and it’s the first taste of his upcoming tenth solo album, For King And Country. He’s described this new chapter of his sound as “Street Psalms” bringing his kwaito roots together with where he is spiritually and personally today.

So today, we get to ask the questions we’ve all been wondering: Why now? What made him finally feel ready to return to music? Can Bouga Luv still make a proper kwaito banger? And after everything that has happened in his life, what does Kabelo Mabalane actually want his music to say now? Kabelo Mabalane is joining us in studio!
