It's Group Therapy Thursday!

Dear Ted and Amy,
My wife insists on making three meals every night – one for us and one for each of the kids that EACH prefer something different.  I grew up in a house where we all had to eat the same thing, and if we didn’t like it, we at least had to try it. I feel like it made me the person that I am today who is willing to try new things. She says that she has a lot of food issues because she had to eat what was on her plate growing up and she doesn’t want her kids to have to go through that. Sometimes they don’t eat either way and are hungry before they go to bed. I say that they’ll eat more the next time. She gives them a snack. This seems to be a nightly issue. Any suggestions how to get these kids to try more things and for my wife not to give in if they won’t?
