It's Group Therapy time!
Dear Ted & Amy,
My husband and I decided to make an effort to get in shape this year so we just recently joined a gym. Neither of us get out of work until 5, so we head there after that. I understand it's a popular time and the gym is going to be crowded. We like to follow a circuit on the equipment that is supposed to work all areas of the body. You go in order and it really shows us how to use each of them. But there is this one guy on his phone every time we go who hogs a piece of the equipment for so long, that we either have to skip it, or just do something else. It's not like he's checking his phone briefly. He sits on the piece of equipment, not using it, but he's on his phone for at least ten minutes a pop! It's like no one else is even trying to take a turn, or if he realizes it, he doesn't care. I get that it's all about sharing, but this seems ridiculous and rude. Being the "new" members, I don't want to cause a stir. But I can't imagine anyone is too happy about it. My husband says we just have to suck it up because he doesn't want to have a confrontation, but I think I'm burning more calories getting steamed about this, than actually working on the machines. Any advice?
Signed,
