It's Group Therapy Thursday time!
Dear Ted and Amy,
My friend and I went to a fall festival this weekend. I spent $30 on raffle baskets and $20 on 50/50. I also bought baked goods and lunch plus purchased from vendors and crafters. All in I spent about $120. We stayed until the event ended and my 50/50 ticket was called and I won just over $250! (Was not so lucky on the baskets.) My friend was appalled because I did not offer to "donate it back" immediately, took the envelope, and kept the money. I did not even consider giving it back because this is how 50/50 works right? Additionally I spent a lot on the other offerings and felt I supported the organization enough. Am I wrong for keeping my winnings and not handing it back over? Is this an unwritten rule I never knew that 50/50 was actually 100/0? Who is right here? My friend now thinks I'm rude and inconsiderate and I'm over here excited that I took home a little more than I spent. She thinks I should send a check for the whole amount plus an additional donation. I'd love to get some feedback on what I should have done here. I have a feeling it's going to be 50/50 on this one!
Signed,
Feeling Cheap in Chittenango
