Dear Ted & Amy,
My sister and her husband stopped attending family gatherings. It was gradual at first; they’d attend a party for 10 minutes sometimes then leave to go hang with friends. They’ll attend immediate family gatherings but not extended. They recently missed out on a family reunion on my father’s side because they’d rather “watch fireworks.” This reunion meant a lot to my family; people from all over flew in from out of town. I believe my sister’s husband is the problem, but she won’t acknowledge the issue. She changes the subject or hangs up on me when I try to talk to her about it. My parents are aging and don’t understand why they won’t attend gatherings either. Am I overreacting?
