It's Group Therapy Thursday! 

Dear Ted and Amy,
My 12-year-old son has reached the age where he thinks everything my wife - his mom - and grandma do is embarrassing. Lately, he’s been asking them not to kiss him on the cheek. It’s always quick hug and short little kiss, but it means a lot to them and that’s how my wife’s family always does it. Not just at home, but after his game, in front of his friends, whenever they see him.He says he’s too old for it and that it embarrasses him. I’ve told him, “Sorry, buddy, that’s just how Mom and Grandma are, and it’s not changing.”But now I’m wondering if I’m handling this wrong. Do I need to teach my son that sometimes you just have to put up with things from family? Or should I be talking to Mom and Grandma and asking them to respect that he’s getting older and doesn’t want the kisses and they’re going to have to make an effort to tone it down? Where’s the lesson here - for the kid or for the adults?Signed,
