It's Group Therapy Thursday time!
Dear Ted and Amy,
I got married last year and absolutely love my wedding gown. I paid a lot for it, and after my wedding day, I paid to have it cleaned and preserved so that if my "potential" future daughter wants to wear it, it'll still be in pristine condition. Just recently one of my good friends got engaged and I know that she's on a limited budget. She approached me about "borrowing" my dress because she loved it and we're pretty much the same size. One side of me would really like to help her out. But there is a reason why she's on a limited budget - she in the past has not really made the best decisions and she doesn't really take care of things. I just see this dress ruined if I loan it to her because even if I tell her how much it means to me that she takes care of it, I just am not trusting that's going to happen. I can hear her say "you're not going to loan me a dress that you'll never wear again JUST IN CASE you have a daughter in the future and SHE wants to wear it?" and then I will feel bad. Do you think it's silly that I care so much about this dress and its future or are friendships more important than any piece of clothing?
Signed,
