The 2025 Oscar Nominations have been announced.
For more, Entertainment Editor Peter Ford joins.
Well, the twenty twenty five Oscar nominations have been announced this morning, and there are some Aussies in the running.
Yeah, let's get more. Here's our entertainment editlor Peter Food, Hi you Pete. Couple of local stars have done well this year.
Yeah, and I think we're all really thrilled for Guy Piers now a guy. He's got a LOGI, he's got a screen actors girl, he's got a whole bunch of awards, but he's never had an Oscar nomination. And that's all fixed this morning for his role in this movie called The Brutalist. I mean, guy has the most amazing career, he really does. He goes for such a variety of projects, we Australian TV productions, small independent movies or big budget movies such as The Brutalist, all three and a half hours of it, including an interval that's very very retro. So fingers crossed for God. I'd love to see him get it. Guy also in the news this week because it has been confirmed that his relationship is actually over with the actress from Game of Thrones, Carreese von Houghton. They were together for a number of years, had one child together. And Caresee has confirmed that they actually split up a couple of years ago, but still the very best friends.
What worries me about guy.
And his chances is has become very vocal politically just in the last few months with regards to the situation in Palestine, and that may not wash well with some voters, but nonetheless fingers crossed for him.
Who else have we got? Adam Elliott?
Another Ossie Melbourne boy, and he has been He won twenty two years ago for Harvey Crumpert and now once again.
Yeah, remember we've had him on the show a few times.
Such a clever guy, trained and was educated at the Victorian College of the Arts from Berrick on the outskirts of Melbourne, and now again nominated for his feature, which is the memoir of a Snail. So hopefully between now and Oscar Day we'll get him on and have a chat. So really thrilled for him. Who else have we got now? Always good to see people nominated when you think, oh, you're back in the big time again.
More is such a person.
Now, not that we've ever really forgotten about her, but suddenly here she is, and her movie called The Substance, has been very well received, she has been picking up other awards, so she might go into this as the favorite. Wicked, of course, we knew would be showing up, except with one exception, which I'll come back to. But Wicked, of course has ten nominations, so they would be really thrilled, not necessarily surprised, but really thrilled, and of course it's all good hype in the lead up to Part two, which of course comes out at the end of this year. And of course two of those nominations. One goes to Ariana Grande in the Supporting Actress category and Cynthia Arigo who's nominated in the Actress category, which is a very clever move, even though if you've seen the movie, they both parts seem to be quite equal, but it was a strategic move to put them each in those two separate categories. Emilia Perez, of course, is this very unusual movie that everyone is talking about it at the moment. It's a musical, but not in a traditional sense, and of course it's got a whole lot of things that make it a first, including the first time a trans woman has been nominated in the Best Actress category, so that's a first for the Ostris this time around, and Zoe Seldana as well, which was well and truly expected.
Yeah, so we celebrate all those nominations, but there were some hot favorites who are missing from the list feed.
Including our nick how could they do this? Nicole Kidman didn't get nominated. Now last week last year, we spoke about this several times and yeah, I haven't got my Oscar buzz bell, but we said she had the Oscar buzz going for her, and it hasn't happened.
I think it was to be expected somewhat.
She didn't get a BAF denomination, didn't get a Screen Actors Guild nomination. She would be severely disappointed by this. She's been working hard for this one.
She's so busy.
I'm worried that that may be starting to work against her. She just seems to be doing too much. So it's no longer a kind of event when Nicole Kidman is doing something as good as she is in Baby Girl and did some very explicit sex scenes, which she herself said she found very challenging.
And I think she.
Would have expected to have at least got a nomination and potentially be a winner. So no luck for her in that category. Pamela Anderson is another one we've spoken.
About a lot.
Last year, she didn't get a nomination for the movie called The Last show Girl. And whilst that would be disappointing for her, g You've got to say the last six months she has absolutely redefined the public perception of her and I think good things are still going to happen for her, and there'll be other times, I think when she can get there, but it would still be a disappointment.
The director of Wicked.
I mentioned theirre ten nominations, but the director didn't get one.
How does that work? Yeah, I'm not joking. I know, Oh my god too.
And but he did master director, glorial masterpiece.
Yeah, you are a director.
You put all of that together and then you think, well, it's obvious. I mean, the same thing happened to Bruce Beresford many many years ago. I do remember that with Driving Miss Daisy.
So that's another great film.
But he's been John has been publicly saying how thrilled is and of course he's not going to moan publicly about it. The other one who I thought would be certainly a shoe in for a nomination is Daniel Craig for the movie he made Queer and Yeah, and he like really transformed himself here and like Nicole did a lot of very explicit sex scenes by mainstream movie standards. So it's almost like the Academy is saying, keep your clothes on if you want to get nominated.
So Academy in that regard. And does this bring into question the credibility of your bell?
It does? It might people like a mos a mos bell. We might have to.
Produced to say to us here, Larry on the show, please keep your clothes on.
Yes, right,
