WA drivers to have AI camera fines wiped

View descriptionShare
Western Australia's Road Safety Commissioner has announced that drivers who received multiple infringements from new AI traffic cameras for the same offence will have subsequent fines reviewed and likely overturned until the date their first infringement was issued. The AI cameras, which detect mobile phone use and seatbelt violations, have issued thousands of fines, with some drivers receiving up to five penalties and 20 demerit points before being notified of their first offence. Double demerit points are now in force for the long weekend as WA faces its worst start to the year for road deaths in over a decade.
