A black BMW was found ablaze on Byrnes Street in Rozelle, Sydney's inner west, just before midnight. Firefighters smashed through windows and the bonnet to extinguish the flames, leaving the luxury vehicle a smoking wreck. Police declared the scene a crime scene and cordoned off the area.

A 37-year-old man was shot outside his Villawood home in Sydney's west at approximately 4am, prompting neighbours to wake to screams and sirens. The victim was transported to hospital in a stable condition but is reportedly not cooperating with investigators. Police are actively searching for the gunman responsible for the suburban street attack.

The New South Wales south coast has been hit by severe weather, with the SES responding to 250 jobs across the state in 24 hours, 130 of them on the south coast particularly around Eden. The Garden of Eden Caravan Park and other low-lying areas were severely impacted by up to 120 millimetres of rain, and the weather system is now moving north towards Sydney metro, the Hunter, and other coastal areas with warnings issued for the weekend.
