A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for North Queensland, with two powerful weather systems expected to bring days of heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding to the north tropical coast and northwest. Townsville residents are being urged to prepare evacuation plans, with sandbagging stations now open. Areas between Eyre and Cairns are bracing for more than 200 millimetres of rain per day.
