Surf lifesavers in South Australia conducted a record-breaking 43 rescues in a single day as thousands of beachgoers flocked to escape 40-degree heat. The unprecedented number of rescues included several mass rescue operations, with 26 rescues alone at Goorwa Beach, along with 327 preventative actions and three ambulance callouts. Jet skis were deployed continuously to retrieve groups of swimmers, with lifesavers urging the public to swim between the flags.
