A Mandurah teenager will spend the night in an operating theatre after being bitten by a shark. The 15-year-old surfer felt something latch onto his leg and didn't know what it was until he saw its big tail.

For more, Lucy Murray report.

Teeth mark stretch from zak Lang's heel to shin deep slashes inflicted by a shark.

I was just standing still, waiting for a wave to come, and then I swelled. Someone lapped onto my leg and then we'd just seen a big tail just flap up and big splash and then let go and swam off. I just felt it like something like grab my leg and then it kind of like shook it a little bit and then just let go.

Five am, Pyramids Beach, Doorsville, The fifteen year old catching waves with a friend. When the ocean predator sank its teeth in, it didn't hurt.

I was just staying chill, trying not to panic or anything.

It was an idealic dawn surf. Dolphins were splashing near the pair, but by five point thirty there was trouble in the water. A surf cam capturing the moment a rogue shark circles them before latching onto Zack. By chance, Jay Reeves was out in the surf too. He paddled back to shore ahead of the boys and prepare and his car to rush Zack to Peel Health Campus.

No stress, completely relaxed and it was just like the gnihilist.

Dude Tonight, Zach is having surgery at Fiona Stanley Hospital to clean the wound and remove anything that may have been left behind, either his own damaged bone fragment or shark teeth. With crayfish season in full swing, dozens of pods have been dropped off the coast here attracting sharks. There's been multiple sightings in the area this week. Not enough to deter this unfazed schoolboy.

Maybe not same spot for a while, but as soon as I can and be out there.
