‘Loyalty’ is a dirty word when it comes to Australians paying their power bills

Australia's three major energy retailers—Origin, Energy Australia and AGL—generated more than $2.2 billion in profits last year while household electricity bills continue to rise. A Climate Council report reveals that gas prices have skyrocketed since Australia began exporting gas offshore, with wholesale electricity prices spiking as a result. The so-called 'loyalty tax' is costing Australian households an average of $220 extra per year, with South Australians paying up to $400 more for staying with the same provider.
