Council apologises after deflating disabled child's pool

View descriptionShare
Sutherland Shire Council rangers ordered a family to deflate a small inflatable pool set up for their eight-year-old son Walter, who has cerebral palsy and is a quadriplegic, at Kurnell Beach during Australia Day celebrations. The council cited safety concerns despite ten adults supervising, and Mayor Jack Bowd later apologised, acknowledging staff could have shown more empathy and discretion. The family hopes the incident will prompt councils to provide better facilities at beaches for children with special needs.
