A baby boy named Hugo has been born in the UK to a mother who received a womb transplant from a deceased donor, marking the first successful procedure of its kind in Britain. His mother Grace Bell was diagnosed at 16 with MRKH, a rare condition where she was born without a functioning womb. The transplanted womb carried the IVF-created embryo to full term, with Hugo born in December, and his middle name Richard honours the surgeon Professor Richard Smith who performed the groundbreaking procedure.
