One of WA's leading infectious diseases experts has welcomed Friday's easing of COVID restrictions across the state but urged the McGowan government to go a step further and stop "double standards" on vaccine mandates for certain workers.

Clay Golledge from Hollywood Private Hospital said while a 'third dose was very important for certain people of the population but not a double-dosed waitress at a cafe for instance'.

"We've achieved such a good level of vaccination now, that the herd immunity, with vaccination and the natural infection that's occurring so prolifically, is giving people a great degree of protection," he told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings.
