Former Chief of Australia’s Defence Force and Mind Medicine Australia board director Professor Admiral (Ret) Chris Barrie AC said Australia’s TGA has given 40 approvals to doctors to provide certain treatments to patients suffering from treatment-resistant PTSD on a case by case basis.
But these approvals are being blocked at the state level.
In Canada, which has a similar health system to Australia, doctors require just one simple approval, which makes access easier.
Mr Barrie says Australia needs to follow suit, with these treatments the only hope for many Veterans suffering PTSD.
