A new report by Monash University has revealed that more severe and frequent bushfires could kill nearly 2,500 Australians in the next 10 years, and cost $110 million in healthcare bills.

However, the most concerning fact is the mental health issues related to bush fires, especially for the emergency service workers. 

Dr Amanda Taylor, Lecturer School of Psychology, The University of Adelaide told 6PR Mornings that the trauma impact emergency service workers experience can vary.

"It can be to do with big disasters like the black summer bushfires but also day to day jobs like attending road accidents," Dr Taylor said.

"There are a number of services available - something that can be tricky with that though is being able and willing to access that support, so the mental health stigma."
