Peter Bol's lawyer, Paul Green, has said he believes the Olympic finalist is innocent after Mr Bol received a shock positive result for performance-enhancing drugs.

The 800-metre national record holder strongly proclaimed his innocence, stating he has "never in my life purchased, researched, possessed, administered or used synthetic EPO."

"He's in shock. Someone asked me 'do you believe him' and I said I wouldn't represent him if I didn't believe him," Mr Green said.

"He convinced me that he never took it, so there's got to be some kind of explanation here which we are going to figure out."
