The state Opposition believes the McGowan Government has no choice but review its proposed nine-month ban on demersal fishing.

It comes hot on the heels of a petition signed by more 11,000 West Australians, petitioning the government to re-think its long-term strategic changes.

Opposition Fisheries spokesperson Colin De Grussa told Liam Bartlett on 6PR Mornings that more data was needed on actual fish stocks and was being caught in WA, particularly in the recreational sector.

"We need to have far better management strategies in place and we actually need to know, accurately, what's being caught, and we don't," he said.
