North Melbourne become the first Melbourne-based team to get a win at Optus Stadium after their 28-point victory of the Fremantle Dockers on Sunday.

The AFL's leading goal kicker, Ben Brown, was shut down by Joel Hamling for most of the game but managed to sneak out for two majors while Jarrad Waite kicked three for the Kangaroos leading his team to the 12.14 (86) to 8.10 (58) win.

Fremantle stayed in the game and were only three points behind into the fourth quarter but North Melbourne charged ahead with 200-gamer Todd Goldstein managing a goal to seal the deal.
Aaron Sandilands was a late casualty, being helped off the ground after a head clash with Sam Durdin.
