Hollywood A-listers and millions of viewers across the world were left speechless after ugly scenes erupted at the Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles.

Actor Will Smith, sitting in the front row, stormed on stage to hit comedian Chris Rock as he presented an award after Rock made a G.I. Jane joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia.

"Certainly no apology to the man he attacked in front of a packed theatre and global TV audience," 6PR Mornings host Gareth Parker said.

"Chris Rock is a comedian, it's his job to poke and prod especially at a Hollywood awards show where the room is full with oversized inflated egos."
