The Finance Report with Evan Lucas, Tuesday 24th June, 2025

On finance with em and Lucas Oh. I have good morning, gentlemen. How are we not bad?

What about the statement the battle is over and the war is won.

Yeah, certainly what the President of the United States has basically said. In the last twenty to thirty minutes since we've been up here. I mean, we have seen that the Iranians responded to the attack on Saturday. They have attacked a US air base based in Qatar. The Qataris are not very happy. Over all this almost minimal damage. And the reason the battle is over in the war is one has been used is that's actually what pretty much happened in twenty twenty when the president of the time was still Donald Trump did something similar and the response from the Irunan response was pretty muted as well. And that's why this morning markets have gone game buses. They basically are backing his statement. You've seen the US markets up over one percent. Oil is staggering. It's fallen seven and a half percent, back at one point below seventy US dollars a barrel to sixty eight dollars. It's back at seventy as we speak. But overall market has been of this belief that this will be a horrible short term issue that may now be coming to an end, because not only as we're speaking, he's talking about the idea that there is now going to be a ceasefire between Israel and Iran. So all is fixed.

Apparently, well it's not fixed, and I'll keep on going for a little while. So keep planning ahead and get insurance.

Virgin.

What's going to happen today?

So Virgin Australia for the first time in five years will rejoin the Australian Securities Exchange after raising six hundred and eighty five million dollars at two dollars ninety a share. It is a much much improved company. I do need to point that out from what it was when it went into administration at the start of COVID. It doesn't have anywhere near the level of debt burden nor the basically meal chain shareholders that it had at the time, which was players like Singapore Alliance also had a New Zealand you've also got players like the Aberdabi based bar sort of numbers all of them are gone. Baying Capital will do very very nicely out of this. It is a very interesting IPO because this year, there has only been a six point four million dollars raised on IPOs. Compare that to last year at this time three hundred and nineteen. So thankfully Virgin will somewhat reinvigorate the IPO market. But it will be a fascinating debut today as it comes back because it's technically thirty percent cheaper than Quantus. So will it therefore have a big jump today? That is the question.

They've had a relationship with Singapore Airlines for quite a few years and recent times have been really pumping up Quitar based on what's happened in the last twenty four hours. Has that impact on them or not?

Yeah, great question, Melzie. So yeah, the link with Singapore has gone, but the Qatar link is now huge. I mean the Katari based airline has brought in about twenty five percent of the company. So we have seen already overnight that there was diversions of Virgin flights away from Qatar into India and also into I forgot the other nation went to but somewhere in the subcontinent. Off the back of what's happening, Yes, it might. However, if you look at Qatar Airways removing the issues that are going on geopolitic. It is a behemoth. It is wanting to get exposure into Australia. We know that, but it's been trying to ramp up more and more flights here. So Virgin is probably tied to a company that sees Australia as the future and that will help.

It, right, Okay, all right, So market it's going to have a good day.

Yeah, it's pointing up sixty two points or point seventy one percent, so that would see it back above the eighty five hundred point mark off that twenty day low that we got to last night.

Fabulous, all right, thanks v Good on you. How the markets can change so quickly. Evan Lucas that economic future is back against same time tomorrow
