Australia is one of 12 countries offered Netflix’s new ad-based budget subscription plan that will roll out on November 4.

The 'Basic with Ads plan' will cost $6.99 per month in Australia, $4 less than the streaming service's current cheapest ad-free plan.

TV Blackbox senior editor Rob McKnight told Gareth Parker on 6PR Breakfast that Netflix's move was to designed to boost revenue.

"The ads will be 15 or 30 seconds in length ... but they won't be as long as what you see on standard television," he said.
